How to Reprogram An EC Motor [Video]

Written by Patty Rasmussen | January 31, 2017

There are several reasons to consider changing your older shaded pole motors for an electronically commutated motor (ECM). For starters, since they can be up to 70 percent more energy efficient than shaded pole motors, EC motors are an ideal choice for manufacturers of commercial refrigeration products — think refrigerators, freezers, reach-in coolers and bottle coolers in supermarkets, restaurants, commercial kitchens and convenience stores. They meet the energy efficiency standards required by the U.S. Department of Energy and, because they run cooler, they last longer. They’re also remarkably quiet. But here are a couple more nifty reasons to look at ECM, flexibility and saving money by reducing inventory.

How’s that accomplished, you might ask?

Reprogramming.

Using programmable EC motors means you only have to purchase one SKU if you have multiple application speeds. Here's a quick demonstration by Dave Purvis, our director of motor business development, of how easy it is how easy it is to reprogram an EC motor:

Pretty simple, right? And how do you like the flexibility of using a computer or Android app? These motors are so easy to reprogram even I could do it. And I’m not even an engineer!
